General Rules

Welcome to the Immersive Design Lab (IDL). We are happy that you are part of the community! However, we expect that you take care of the equipment and the room facilities.

The IDL team is in the office (HIT F 11.2) from 09:00-17:00 and on the following weekdays:

  • Tuesday
  • Wednesday
  • Thursday

Duty of care

The users of the laboratory act on their own responsibility and have a duty of care towards the infrastructure of the laboratory. This includes the interior furnishings, the XR equipment and the proper handling of the software provided. Arbitrary damage or disregard of the duty of care will result in the responsible user being held liable. Please follow the general rules below:

The lab

Eating and drinking

Consuming food is strictly prohibited in the Immersive Design Lab. While beverages are allowed, they must be consumed from bottles only to minimize spill risks; coffee cups are not permitted. Please be careful to avoid spills on the equipment and floor.

Projector

The beamer should not run longer than 5 hours. Please don’t forget to turn if off if you leave the IDL. Check out more details here (TODO: link to beamer docu)

Projector Canvas

Please be cautious when lowering and raising the projector canvas. Before doing so, thoroughly check the surrounding area to ensure it is free of any potential obstructions, such as chairs or doors, to ensure the canvas can be adjusted smoothly and safely. This preventive measure helps maintain the integrity of the canvas and avoids damage to the equipment or surrounding area.

Racks

Don’t open the doors of the racks and do not plug or unplug cables without authorisation of the IDL Team.

Cooling

The cooling must always be turned on (blue light must be on). Please Do not open the balcony door for ventilation when the outside temperature is warm (the room is already mechanically ventilated).

Speakers and Subwoofers

Please refrain from touching the speakers and subwoofers. The white surfaces of the speakers are prone to showing marks easily. Additionally, do not use the subwoofers as tables.

Balcony

Feel free to eat and drink on the balcony. However, please ensure that you dispose of your trash afterward. Do not move the benches, as they may interfere with the operation of the sunblinds. Additionally, keep the balcony door closed when the outside temperature is warm, as the room is equipped with mechanical ventilation.

Tables and chairs

Please bring back any tables and chairs that you brought in from the D++ workspace in F11.2. Please contact Mr. Jean-Claude Addor for maintenance, cleaning, and general building management.

Booking

Please always book the IDL in advance. This is simply done by sending a calendar invitation to hitf22@ethz.ch. Check the room availability on the lab Calendar.

Thank you! – The IDL Team.
